Argentina... first stop Mendoza, the famous wine region, and very nice it is too! We headed to Beunos Aries for a few day in the capital where we wandered around the city and had a night out Latin America stye, which does not begin until midnight when you have to go for an evening eal in resturants so busy people queue on the street to get in. Around 2am its time to move on to a club, and generally roll back home around 7am (we didnt quite make it that long a we had a bus to catch the following day!
There is an area of Beunos Aries called Carmina, in La Boca where we found the true Latin America, brightly painted houses, people dancing the tango in the streets and what appeared to be entire cows on the barbeque. La Boca is also home to Boca Jrs football stadium, a lovely little place where fireworks and flares replace the English pukka pie and bovril in the hands of the supporters. Apparently I personally was well known in that area, being English, as we are all football hooligans :)
So after 2 weeks in South America, and the language barrier we encountered I have mastered Spanish (not quite to Em´s standard as she is doing an amazing job of learning the language) but more to a Rich´s Essential Guide to Spanish level which is pretty much as follows:
LESSON 1
Cerveza = Beer
Vino Blanco = white wine
Vino Tinto = red wine
Grande = big (to be said before ALL food and drink orders)
Freo = cold
Piccante =spicy
Caliente = hot
Donde = where (which requires some help from the other person in the form of pointing and arm waving)
No Espanaol = if all else fails use this and you´ll be met with a look of "oh dear"
Lesson 2 will be available in a few weeks, I might even branch out to Podcasts...Next stop Igazu Falls and then Salta, then a whole new country - Bolivia.
Lots of love
Rich and Em x
