India and Nepal 2022
The Hope Foundation kindergarten and primary school was set up in 2005 after the tsunami. It educates some of the orphans from that tragedy and the sons and daughters of the local village fishermen. It is a great place, expertly run by an inspirational leader who is a social worker by background. We had a lovely welcome including garlands and a visit to each of the classrooms where we saw the children being taught. Learning three languages; English, Tamil and Hindi from the age of three is so impressive and hopefully will give these children a better chance in life than they would otherwise have had. We went on to see the old French colonial town of Pondicherry during the afternoon. It was interesting to see avenues with French style houses and road names.
