I had only travelled about 400m when a Texas Route 66 Welcome Centre appeared.

The U Drop Inn Route 66, Shamrock Texas and what a change, friendly people Ms Patsy could not be more helpful. They even had a premium Tea or Coffee freshly brewed by the cup all free.

Lots of artifacts and of course a select, quite a wide one , of Route 66 souveniors. They welcomed each guest took photographs which you can let them show in the U Drop inn so look for an Indian next time you are in Shamrock.

I had a great supper (Dinner/Tea) the night before of Catfish, freshwater ones, at a local restaurant where again not only where the staff efficient and friendly that carried a message from God on their T Shirts. That would up set the PC brigade in Australia no end.

At the U Drop Inn I sat at the same table Elvis did and posed the question he stayed in Room 18 at the same Motel I used the night before. The room have been renumbered and I stayed in 108 is that the famous room? there are only 20 rooms and all have a 0 now in the number.

I also visited another old Gas Station as you will see in the photos before continuing along Route 66 to lunch in McLean at the local store, where a buffet was the order of the day.

After lunch it was West to Exit 112 to view the second largest Cross in the Western Hemisphere. It is said the Cross can be seen from 30kms in any direction. It also has a wonderful set of scenes depicting the final days in Jesus's life all life size and free. it was here that 9yr old Grabiel got the thrill of his life when his Mum approached me and we agreed he could be seated on a real motorbile -the Indian. Maybe he will grow up to be a motorcyclist?

Passing Groom I saw what appeared to be a water tower leaning over, later I found out it was constructed like that as a symbol of remembrance for those passing

I also noted the "thumpity-thump"sounds of the old concrete stretches of the road as every new section responates with this classic thumps as never were they exactly alined in depth.

Random thoughts and experiences.

The other night at Stroud I had dinner with Jay the Sheriff. At 29 yrs of age he was elected Sheriff by popular choice after running on a ticket of Law & Order. Yes elected.

I asked him about his Police District that he was covering that night it was 940sq miles. So he asked a mate to come along to "ride shotgun"can't see that happening at home. I asked him how much politics influenced the election, "well you don't think I would get any votes from the Democrats, running on a Law & Order ticket, they would only be interested if I wanted to set up a Santuary City which ain't gonna happen in the Bible belt"

Similiary the Looney Left over here want to remove all general Lee or Civil War statues. They have in one State also passed a law to remove the name Lynch from any public city, town or building. So places known for a couple of centuries such as Lynchburg appear doomed by the history changers like the crazy Professor at Sydney Uni who wants White people in Australia to be known as The Invaders. Pity Little John Howler took our guns. I wonder a Second Amendment for Australia?

I was riding the side road, Route 66, when I saw numerous signs seeking Immediate starts for truck drivers. Most rigs on the roads over here have similiar signage with pay rates around 40c per mile, say 32c per km. What was different was this Company said new equipment, 80 drivers immediate start. I travelled a big further and to my amazement in their yard next to the Interstate sat a large number (80 as stated ?) Brand new Kenworth Trucks and trailers with additional signage "select your colour'and yes they were in a range of colours.

The Oklahoma Turn Pike Authority has responded to my last blog and they claim that it is possible to use duplicate side routes (Route 66) to avoid any tolls. Thanks now we need to get the authorities to signpost them, then maybe OK would be a little more welcoming to me.
