I never fail to be amazed at the variance of quality of motels in the US. Even chains do not have the same quality controls it appears. My Amarillo Texas Motel was typical. I had only travelled about 400m when a Texas Route 66 Welcome Centre appeared. The U Drop Inn Route 66, Shamrock Texas and what a change, friendly people Ms Patsy could not be more helpful. They even had a premium Tea or Coffee freshly brewed by the cup all free. Lots of artifacts and of course a select, quite a wide one , of Route 66 souveniors.
