The title photo best portrays the present state of Oslo the Capital of Norway.
On one hand it contains great buildings such as the Royal Palce and the Munch Museum.
It is the home to the Kon Tiki & Ra II rafts used by explorer Thor Heyerdahl (1914-2002) who crossed the Pacific Ocean on his balsa wood Kin Tiki raft in 1947.
Close by is the home of Norway's maritime history at The Fram Museum so culture and history prevail but downtown Oslo is different. Evidence of graffitti (no not street art but simple destruction of public building and facilities) exists in far greater manner then should be tolerated.
Coupled with this is another feature that is taking over some European countries a culture reversal where a large number of beggars exist in the streets.
They are not Norwegian people, they are the illegals who stormed Europe back in 2015 and once the flood gates opened it has been a difficult task to stop them.
I asked one lady, they are almost without exception of Africian or Eastern European decent, why she didnt get a real job. Well the pathetic look on her face soon turned to absolute hate as she hissed "Rich tourist, dont want to work! She scurried off as I tried to pursue her for more answers, it was evident she was not interested in assimilation and becoming a meaningful citizen of Norway. Norway has now limited their intake to 3000 per year.
The City Mayor Raymond Johansen, has a Green future for Oslo as his policy and close reading of it makes as much sense as his claims for a climate-smart city of Oslo. First I knew a Mayor and his policies could change climates! It is obivious he learn nothing as Secretary General for the Norwegian Refugee Council as he is so out of step with the Federal Government, perhaps he and Clover Moore in Sydney can save the world.
My time in Oslo was limited so it was onto a Hop On Hop Off bus to see the sites.
The tour took us to the Historical Museum, home to some of Norway's greatest artifacts of their long Viking based existence. The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History preserves similiar aspects of the developement of the country of Norway and it's expedetions to many parts of the world thus establishing its place in history as a great maritime country.
Leaving the tour for a closer inspection of Slottet, The Royal Palace, saw us walking Karl Johans Gate as we did so we noticed an increased Police presence and a series of black VIP cars and vans. Someone of importance was nearby so we walked up to the Palace Slottsparken and awaited their arrivial or actually passing us. After a short wait we were rewarded as the convoy under Police escort and amid lots of blue flashing lights passed by and into Frederiks Gate who was it well an extensive Goggle search has revealed nothing! Still we were a witness.
The cost of living can be well illustrated by a simple bill beers were 85NOKor $14.16 on present exchange rates. Hambugers range from $25-$31 but still one comes knowing this and what's the point of coming if one doesn't experience the local ways.
The National Opera was well worth the walk as it is possible to view the 3 different halls and also to walk upon the roof. A final interesting part of the Opera House is the Rain forest Pissatorium or more commonly called the male toilets where a rainforest effect accompanies nature.
The city is in a continual stage of construuction be that building or public infrastructure. Whole new precidents are appearing, new cultural centres, new public transport so while growth is pushing ahead the city centre grinds to a halt as roads become clogged and all this is aimed to make Oslo a known centre of world investment, tourists & education in Europe's fastest growing Capital city.
Perhaps the title photo depicting a shipwreck in Oslo harbour best defines the City of Oslo in 2018.
