Those who wish to help out cannot be but touched by the true story of Izzy.
Izzy herself cannot tell anyone her real name infact Izzy was her given name from well meaning people who adopted her some 9-10 years ago.
They do not know her birth date or birth place let alone her parents who it is assumed discarded her at birth or shortly after.
We like thousands of people stumbled upon Izzy as she went about her begging, yes even New Zealand has beggers in this day and age.
We were having a quiet day at our Lake Hayes retreat but some house keeping chores such as a visit to the Post Office and food supplies made it necessary to journey not into Queenstown but to Frankton Shopping complex hear the airport.
A bank was found which mean funding for shopping and a near by Department store soon yielded Possum gloves which are ideal for motorcyclists especially those who are planning a ride in the Himalaya's.
We waited to grab that ultimate aircraft photo but it was not forthcoming. I had planned a photo of an incoming passenger jet to the runway at Queenstown. Boring I can hear people saying but hold it these planes in order to reach the runway must come up a valley where the Remarkables mountain range towers well above the aircraft.
We had been already to Countdown Supermarkets which originally were Woolworth's but when given to the First Nations people quickly became unviviable and were reinvented under new ownership as Countdown.
We had also visited Pack n Save a no frills supermarket like Aldi and joined their Sticky Club as reqular "savers".
Today we decided to visit New World the öther major group". New World seems to be always modern builds and more likely to be found in newer developments in the surburbs. New World Wakatipu was the anchor tenant in this now very large and diverse shopping centre next to Wakatipu High School which only opened in 2018.
We noticed people milling around the front door and some had very surprised but welcoming looks on their faces while others showed their anger and disgust. What would cause these diverse reactions?
It didnt take us long to see that a makeship home was set up at the Supermarket door complete with food , bedding, and a sign announcing that New World Wakatpu Supermarket had adopted an orphan Lizzy.
THE NOTICE SET OUT lIZZY'S LIFE AS MUCH WAS KNOWN HOW SHE "ARRIVED" ONE DAY DIRTY, HUNGRY AND POSSIBLY DISEASED.
The staff had arranged medical treatment and sent her off to a shelter where after some rest and checks was announced as being "disease free but unadopted". She was released and made her way back to the only place that had shown any care or consideration.
In due course the formal adoption of Lizzy was arranged by the supermarket staff as a entity and now around 9 years later Lizzy "lives at the supermarket" adorded by most especially the tourists who love to be photographed next to or with Lizzy who being independant all her life accepts affection from some and despises others.
Whatever happens Lizzy is a very photographed tabby cat.
