We has been told about The Wild Horse Saloon. They had line dancing from 6pm and was a place for good food and music. It sounded like a perfect place. Photo is of Joanne next to the Wild Horse.
It started to drizzle, then rain, then pour, then a thunderstorm struck and the rain pelted down. The sidewalks and roadways were awash. Many of the buildings do not have verandahs and the sidewalks are not covered. We had bought rainwear, but to this time had not needed it on our holiday. Sadly, it was now back in the hotel. So we got soaked trying to find The Wild Horse Saloon.
After much puddle jumping and looking a wreck, we arrived only to be greeted by the doorman saying there was a $6 cover charge for the night and an hours wait for a table. We didn't know what to do, so after some indecision we opted to pay the cover charge. In we went, past the hostess who was supposed to take our name for a dinner reservation, past the waiting area, past the waiting bar, and plonked ourselves down on a table with a great view of the line dancing and the stage - how easy was that! It is difficult to know routines sometimes in a foreign land. We didn't mean to "push in" or bypass others waiting, we just didn't know the routines. That was until a waitress came and told us we would have to move to the waiting area as the table was for someone "waiting". We apologised, and apologised again, and seeing us soaked and no doubt elderly ( I'll take the credit), she told us to wait at the table and she would check with the hostess. Well, she came back with two menus - we were in!
Joanne went off to learn line dancing, being careful that no one stood on her toe; and I ordered dinner:
An entree of 2 corn bread (a type if scone), 2 muffiny things and crackers and dips.
Mains- Joanne - a grilled chicken salad. Me - a Wild Horse Saloon cheeseburger - think huge piece of steak, covered with grilled cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce and the ubiquitous fries.
Joanne returned from line dancing, toe in tact, and it was time for the main event "Brother Trouble". They were good, but too noisy for us and too far to the rock side of country with their electric guitars and hip hop style. Still, it was a good night.
Desert- Apple Cobbler - Apples in a syrup with dollops of cream on top - we shared this.
We decided that it was time to leave. Time for another walk along Broadway to feel the atmosphere, hear the music coming from the bars and restaurants and see the neon lights. It was still lightly raining and we had to pack for a 4am rise in the morning, so we bid farewell to the Nashville nightlife.
Nashville - a great city, alive and welcoming.
The West Coast beckons. Good night.
