Hi everyone, In Phuket now, having a great time. Today I went snorkling twice after I bought my new 'professional' snorkling kit.. it's letting water in the goggles a touch but it's crystal clear viewing. I was snorkling alone while Ant lazed on the beach. It's a bit scary snorkling alone (just cos it's the big wide ocean and you're so open to attack from creatures of the depths). Ok, I'm exaggerating a bit - they were quite shallow bay areas but I saw lots of fishies and a large eel which a swam away from cos it was looking at me funny from under a rock. The thai people here think I look a bit Thai because of my skin colour (it's the same as theirs here). I also had a gorgeous Green curry, yum!
We flew in a few days ago from Bangkok cos Ant wanted to recover from his jetlag+ food poisoning sickness. He got a bit burnt today so he's gone a funny luminous pink colour whivh I gave to laugh at... he says it's not too painful. We got a car for the last few days which is nice cos we've been able to drive around and find beautiful view points and little beaches which would be difficult to get to otherwise. We're staying on a beach called Kamala at the moment, which is near the main beach of Phuket, but thankfully we don't get the overcrowded noisyness of Phuket beach. I told Ant that I think we're getting old because we want to stay away from all that clubbing/party scene. I think Krabi beach is the next stop.
Yesterday we went to a rainforest National Park with a waterfall called Ban Pae waterfall. We saw a gibbon rehabilitation site. They were so cute and their mating calls were so loud but calming - you could hear them from ages away. It really felt like a rainforest - the smells were like what you'd smell in Kew Gardens in the tropical glass house and me and Ant trekked up a mountainous trek path for about an hour and a half, which we were the only two people on. It was very tiring because of the heat, but it was so worth it - we stooped in a part where we had lovely views of the tree top canopy (I'm sure that we were near the top, but Ant got a bit tired and the sign which said 'Beware of dangerous animals' half way up the path didn't help. Anyway, we sat on a fallen tree above the path and read books there for a while. I was just in awe of all the nature - there were loads of huge butterfly's with dramatic colours just flittering around and Kestrels, lizards, birds.. thank god we didn't see the cobra's. After that, I jumped in the cool waterfall and all was well - I felt great afterwards. Tomorrow, hopefully more beaches and then an evening show. Simon, thanks for reminding me about downloading new pics. Will do xxx
