We are staying in an area called San Blas and today we walked down to "old town", we found it quite touristy and a
bit over priced with not a lot to see and do. On the edge of old town we found a seafood restaurant , Wendy had the red snapper and I had a fish filet dish, they came with rice and fried plantain and veggies... Delicious for $13 total.
Along the streets there are small shops set up under and in some cases connected to the operators home the small grocery shops remind us of old Havana. Bananas still on the branch, an abundance of fruits and vegetables can be purchased for next to nothing. As we ventured out this morning we bought a couple of bananas and four mandarin oranges for $.35 cents.
In the evening we went in search of a snack and discovered that haircuts here are cheap. Wendy got her hair cut extra short, the woman cutting her hair was meticulous, spent anoint an hour on the cut, it turner out fabulous for only $3 bucks. As we left the salon at about 9 pm there were thousands of people on the street for some unknown (at. Least by us) celebration, there was fireworks and endless lines of buses.
We finally stopped in a little restaurant that was packed with lines outside serving only one dish which was fresh fried potatoes with a boiled egg a salad made mostly of red onions along with salsa. Yummy. When we went to pay they said it was only a dollar.
