So we have not done a blog post for a few days because the past few days we have been super busy.
Chapter 1: The Classic Marseille
So on Thursday we explored the city of Marseille. With Juliette's uncle Daniel and aunt mirelle we explored the historical and classic side of Marseille we visited the church of .... Which holds a lot of important history especially during the world wars in which it sheltered soldiers looking for a place to stay and be safe. The church is dedicated to those who are also lost at sea manly by ship, but also by plane. The ceilings are beautiful and there are a lot of plaques dedicated to lost people or members of families who where saved during the war by the church. After checking out the old port we made our way to Chez Aldo a very nice restaurant overlooking the shore of the Mediterranean sea. We had some wonderful Mediterranean sea bass,: which Daniel picked out from the raw fish on ice by the door, which where all caught that day. We started off with yet again some great pizza and then had some great fish. I don't usually like fish but I ate the whole thing and really enjoyed it! Daniel insisted on us having some white wine with our meal. Juliette said that the wine was the best white wine she had ever had. We finished off the meal with some dessert Juliette had cremebrule a d I had some wonderful creme puffs! I unfortunately did not have enough room to finish all three glorious creme puffs however. Mirelle insisted on buying us t-shirts which are awesome! Later we went back to there house in the older of the city. The house is beautiful it has a swimming pool, 2 koi ponds an olive tree and various fruit trees. They had a cute dog named Vanille and we swam and had drinks. She showed us pictures and showed us around the house. It is beautiful! So afternthat we went to the train to wait for daniel's son Eric.
Chapter 2: The Fresh Old Marseille
Eric arrived at the trolly stop and he bought us tickets and we embarked on our journey to new marseille. We rode the trolly a few stops and got off near the old port. We first stopped through i guess the "rough" part of the neighborhood that was filled with many immigrants. We walked through a market area filled with foods of all kinds. It was how i would imagine a market in north africa or even india, with big crowds and lots of variety. We followed a red line around the city and stopes at a hospital which Juliette had written a paper about in school. Eric spoke a good amount of english and was a lot of fun! We taught Eric the word for place where his house was. We told him he could refer to his area as his "neighborhood" just "hood". After doing a walking tour around the city we went to his "hood" and checked out the area. There were kids playing in the small street riding there kiddie bikes down the cobblestone steep hill. At his house we waited for his wife to come home from work. He said he is always waiting for Anes..."that's life" he added. This became an important phrase for the rest of the day. Anes came home and we packed up got into the car and drove to one of the calanques that we saw on the boat tour we took with Cecile. We drove on crazy windy narrow roads on the alps to get there. Once there you need to hike to get to the beaches and our foot attire was not quite sufficient for the small 15 min hike on sheet rock and pointy shards of rock beds. Juliette was wearing her comfy heels and I my slippery flip flops. Juliette hike barefoot on the sheet rock and in her heals on the rocky bead of shards. It was quite a new adventure, but awesome! Once e got there we swam around and goofed off. Then we went on shore as the sun started to set to eat some dinner. We startd off with some bread and olive spread. We had wine again but his time red wine. Juliette had some great cuscus and I had a great traditional French sandwich that had tuna, eggs, tomato, onions, and mayonnaise. It was very good, I'm gonna make it at home sometime. We finished with bread and some amazing cheese and then some mango. Night fell and we began to clean up and we showed them the star walk app I have on my iPad. After that they took us to Cassis for some ice-cream around 10:30 and then traveled back to the house in Cuges les pins. We got a little lost trying to find the house. We goofed off a bit when we got there and immediately went to bed.
We had an amazing day and we explored and got to see the variety that is a big part of Marseille, it was truly a great day filled with good food, good company, and good culture! It was a day I will never forget!
