So yesterday was just awesome. We had decided we wanted to go to a beach that we could actually swim in, because the waves in Legian were so aggressive that it was more of a workout than relaxation, and we are on holiday after all! Plus our hairdryer had broken, and after scouring the streets of Legian/Kuta to try and find one... including a big shopping mall that didn’t even stock one, it was really frustrating being on the beach and not being able to go in the water to cool off when it’s nearly 30 degrees outside because we had just washed our hair and those waves just don’t respect personal space.
So Kevin, who we had met the previous night, met us at our hotel at 10am yesterday and we had a coffee then summoned a Grab taxi (Asia’s equivalent to Uber) to take us to the Bukit Peninsula... the most southern part of Bali. We headed to a posh beachfront hotel in Nusa Dua, purely because google maps told us it was near this cool viewpoint called “Water Blow” where water blows up into the sky from between two cliffs/rocks. Unfortunately it was closed for renovation due to big waves making it unsafe, so we had to scrap that idea. We had half an hour on the golden sand beach and had a dip in the warm crystal clear sea, and decided it was lunch time. But while in Nusa Dua there was really only one option for lunch, and that was a very highly rated street food restaurant that’s famous for it’s Babi Guling... which translates to “suckling pig”. It’s basically various parts of spit fire roasted pork, including different types of crackling, served with rice, vegetables, a belly pork skewer and an Indonesian spicy sauce. IT. WAS. DELICIOUS. Worth the taxi ride to get there. And very cheap! We then headed to another well reviewed beachside bar & grill which was very nice but very quiet. We decided to do some parasailing which Gaby had never tried before, and it was a short but sweet experience enjoyed by us all.
The owner of the bar & grill had said that we would not see the sun set from this bar as we were the wrong side of the island, and as that was another main reason for coming down south (reviews say they are spectacular!) we decided to go somewhere in Jimbaran for the evening, which is the other side and does actually get stunning sunsets. So as I had shown Kevin pictures of the super fancy “Rock Bar” that was recommended to me by my best bud Kelly, he (and us) had our heart set on visiting there, at least for a drink, to watch the sunset... so we summoned another Grab (we were their best customer that day!) We sat in the outside bar overlooking the sea for a few hours until the sun had completely set, and it really was the most spectacular sunset I’ve ever seen (again... photos to follow). We got our final Grab taxi of the day back to Legian, and the final cherry on top of an already perfect day was that we finally had notification that I’d be graduating with a First Class Honours Degree, and Gaby will be graduating with a 2:1. It was the perfect end to the perfect day.

Dad Hi Jess, Wendy has been passing on the updates, as I'm not getting them, but this was a wonderful one to read. Well done on the First Class Honours, darling - that's utterly brilliant. I can't say that I am altogether surprised, but even so that's the best bit of news I've read in a long, long time. Well done, Jess! Wendy is really pleased as well. And, of course, it's always an encouragement to learn that there are other members of the Brotherhood of Kevins out there in the world, doing their bit for civilisation, and travellers in a strange land. Oh, and did I say CONGRATULATIONS on the Degree result?
wendy Well done Nurse Pops thats amazing. loving hearing your travel stories too.xx

Jessica Thanks all! We’re both very pleased and proud of our results. We are currently on the most beautiful island of Nusa Lembongan where we celebrated with some drinks last night while plonked on beanbag chairs for several hours at our beachfront hotel bar which has the most beautiful sunsets. Hope you’re all well back home. Lots of love xxxx
