After Merimbula we had our first long drive down to a place called Foster. Again this place was chosen by necessity as it was between where we were and the Great Ocean road without being in Melbourne, and it had hostel available for a reasonable price, reasonable might be spelt reasonible.....??? We thought it would be a decent enough looking town, but it wasnt, it was a bit of a one horse town, with one horse. Not sure what that actually means but the place was small and expensive and small, did I mention it was small? We were put into the self catered apartments next door to the hostel, since the two rooms in the hostel were full, it was small, I mentioned that right? So we had a nice little apartment, with a private two bed room and a three bed family room (unoccupied for the first two nights), with a kitchen, dining and tv area, a utility room with free laundy and a bathroom.... perfect!!!! There was even free milk in the fridge... result!!!!
Well, so the place itself it kind of a gateway to the Wilson Promonomomonontry. Still cant say that word or spell it. It is a penisula national park type thing with lots of walks and animals and beaches. On our first day we went down to the lilly pilly gully walk, which was nice enough, the trees were really tall and lots of them had burn marks on them from black saturday, the massive bush fire in 2009 that wiped the place out. Thankfully the forest area actually relies on forest fires to redevelop itself and it looked in pretty good nick, and there were animals still there too... we saw a flock of Emu. The next day we went back and went to the tidal river area and on a walk to Picnic Bay, Whisky Bay and Squeaky Beach.... yes these people are geniuses when it comes to naming places. We had our picnic at the beach, had some whisky for a Picnic and squeaked in Whisky bay before heading back to Norman beach for a swim..... very cold if I remember correctly but good fun with the waves..... Regina has gotten very good at ducking them.
We also went for a walk along the old rail way line which has been turned into a trail... bit straight but nice all the same, no snakes again though.... I think that was it, it was nice there, the beaches were lovely down the prom and the few days in a sleepy little town werent too bad with the private ish accomodation, especially after the long drive down there, and the long drive up to Melbourne and down to Apollo Bay and the start of the Great Ocean road ahead of us... thats next by the way, we dont stop in Melbourne til after the Great Ocean rd so next stop, Apollo Bay....
