Off we headed this morning for Ayutthaya. We left good and early on the twenty past eight 1st class bus, costing us the princely sum of 350 baht each, round about 17Euro altogether. The bus was much swankier, you can tell by the tassled curtains hanging above the windows. Also the TV up the front playing the latest Thai music hits (more on that in a second). Also the bus has a toilet and is a double decker.... I know how to treat a girl let me tell you!!! Back to the music videos. Basically it was like MTV or something, no ads inbetween mind you. It would have been on for maybe the first two or three hours of the six hour journey. Every single artist was female, bar none. Every song, bar maybe one or two was about being cheated on, or unrequited love, or some similar form of depression. This we interpretted from the videos alone by the way, as the songs, and subtitles were both in Thai. After a while the songs became catchy and after an even shorter while they returned to being irritating again, oh well at least I have my iPod..... no wait its down in the hold inside my bag.... Some time around half eleven we were handed out some bottles of water and a bag of wafer biscuits. I may have mentioned before the competition Regina and I are having for giving up chocolate for lent. Well the wafers had 3% cocoa powder in them, and after about an hour of looking at them we ate them.... we are sorry but 6 hour buses and massively changed plans have a way of taking their toll on ones will power. The bus stopped off at a road side cafe thing and we got out for a wee and a walk around. They may have been giving us food at the restaurant for free but we werent told this by anyone so we just watched everyone else go in and eat and stood outside in the heat, we didnt know what food was what anyway... damn thai script!!!!
The road down was pretty much the same as everywhere else, its starting to get boring now a little. Thailand is still a nice place, but they could really try mix it up a bit. We got to the bus drop off on the edge of town, and this was not what we had been expecting, we honestly thought they had just ditched us at a dodgy taxi rank... thats all there was. 300 baht for three of us to get into town to the hostel, some old german guy came with us (no idea who he is). Anyway, the town itself is much bigger than Sukhothai, which would make Sukhothai even nicer when you do get there, most people go the other way around and end up in Chiang Mai last. Its big and ugly and smelly, like Bangkok except smaller. There are tarpaulin advertisements hanging off every surface fit to tie one too, there are men in tuk tuks everywhere trying to offer us lifts and take us on tours of the sites. Well, thats probably to be expected, it is closer to Bangkok than Suko. We checked into the hostel, its grand but not worth writing about. We took a walk through town looking for the historical park. There are ruin sites everywhere, but in truth the town itself is a bit of a ruin, dirt and crap everywhere. There is a really dodgy look to the place and it is either the heat and humidity mixed with tired and hungry or this place is genuinely creepy. We passed an elephant show and then saw some much larger ruins in a park, but still no sign of the heritage park.
Think we have to leave the internet cafe now.... I will try complete this later but might just leave it at that. We can explore the town properly tomorrow maybe
