Left London via train to Paris. Our first experience in the "Chunnel" under the English Channel....it only took approx 20 minutes and voila...we were in France. French countryside too us, was very much like Saskatchewan scenery....lots of farms....and flat....but very beautiful. We had to switch train stations in Paris.....The taxi driver wanted to charge us 65. Euro to take us 4km......Sheena and Cathy were quite vocal....and to make a long story short....we all got kicked out of the cab, and had to get another one.....glad it happened though...as we got an honest cabbie and cost us much less. Accomodations in Geneva, unfortunately, have been less than desirable.....very shoddy.....we felt pretty crappy about it and considered checking into a hotel...but decided to tough it out. First full day we just walked around and explored Geneva....it is a very beautiful city, and the weather has been fantastic.....so nice to have full days of sunshine! Geneva is so much more slower pace than London, so, a welcome change. Very expensive in Switzerland....and finding reasonably priced meals has been a real challenge....never thought one of our best suppers would be at McDonalds! Next day was our day trip to the French town of Chamonix and cable car up to Monte Blanc, the highest peak in Europe at 12,800 feet. Chamonix is a beautiful town and it was very enjoyable. Up on the mountain, We all had a bit of problem breathing, due to the thin air, and Cathy did go back down quite early. Our tour bus driver was an English ninny and rambled on and on about various things...and we were happy to get off the bus! Last day in Geneva, we went to an open market and had some lunch on a patio...pretty low key. We are all looking forward to Italy tomorrow!
