Colleen & Tom's Explorations
So this morning we got ourselves up at 6 so we had time for breakfast up in the Windjammer before reporting with the remains of our belongings to the ice rink, ready to disembark. We forwarded through migration, collected our suitcases and then went through customs and out to the taxi rank where we were ushered into a gleaming white Mercedes taxi. We arrived at the Grand Mercure Roxy and went to check in, very aware that it was only 8.30 in the morning and that our booking was for day use. The receptionist indicated to some other people sitting nearby, telling us they were fellow passengers who'd come from the ship but their room wasn't ready yet. She also wished Tom a belated Happy Birthday and ushered us down to the concierge desk to book us in for the complimentary airport shuttle, telling us she'd manoeuvred us away from the other guests so they wouldn't hear that our room was ready, and that she'd given us an upgrade to a suite in honour of Tom's birthday. Wow! We were really pleased and impressed. We had a lovely time - reading, watching telly, using the free wifi, napping, and then a wonderful shower in a space I'm sure was bigger than our entire bathroom on the ship!! At 4pm we went downstairs and checked out , sitting in the foyer until their complimentary shuttle pulled up and took us off to Changi airport. Once there we checked our luggage in, did a little shopping and boarded our 50 minute flight to Kuala Lumpur. And what a flight that was!!! It was full of Indians who either had never flown before, or couldn't read English. They were all in the wrong seats. There were two screaming toddlers in the row behind us, one of whom was trying to have various body parts impressed upon the back of my seat for all eternity. They didn't follow instructions - more than once the steward had to tell them very firmly to "SIT DOWN", especially after we'd landed. The Malaysian girl across the aisle from me commented that the stewards must've been the most patient ones around (and that's when I realised she spoke with an Irish accent, she's lived in Dublin for 10 years). She's home for 2 weeks with her parents. No sooner had we achieved cruising altitude than we were heading down again.
