Colleen & Tom's Explorations
This morning we rose at 5am and had an early breakfast. As we ate our brekky, watching the city go by, we sailed past the Statue of Liberty!! We finished packing up and treked down to the Queen's Room for our 7.30am depature - finally off the ship at about 8am.
As we exited the terminal there was a man organising transport. We told him we were getting a cab to Newark (we had been told by the Purser's Desk that this should cost us $75) and he told us we could go by stretch limo for $80. We knew that Cunard coaches would cost $90, so we said okay!!!
The limo was lovely, although the little man did rustle up another couple to share it (they were from California). A very pleasant mode of transport indeed!!
When we arrived at Newark we asked if we could possibly get an earlier flight (it was 9am and our flight was about 6pm) and the lady put us on standby for 1st class and we could definitely get economy. We waited and saw the lady at the gate for the 11.30am flight, and I was given a seat in 1st class, Tom was in economy. But at least we got to SF much earlier - once there we could wait in the Business/First class lounge (which was not available in New York for domestic flights) with snacks and drinks supplied for our 8 hour wait!
In first class I was seated next to an Arabic-speaking man (had to be told to end his mobile conversation) who is a CEO of a software firm based in Silicon Valley. He knows Australia well, owns 2 bottles of Penfolds Grange, but prefers Henskes Hill of Grace, just like us!!
The rest of the journey home was uneventful and tedious - we were so glad to be back home!!
