Colleen & Tom's Explorations
We crossed the equator at about 6.30 this morning, giving the Entertainment Team a reason to hold a special ceremony on the pool deck at 11am, the "Sons of Neptune" ceremony where all polliwogs (those who have not crossed the equator before) are initiated. We didn't get to the ceremony. :( I had an early breakfast in our cabin, so that I could be at the spa by 8. I had a full body scrub, a leg massage and a mini-facial. It was just wonderful. Tom went and had brekkie in the Windjammer. I returned to our cabin to find Tom waiting and then we went down to the medical centre on level 1 where we waited and waited to see a doctor. I have a sinus infection which has given me an excruciatingly sore throat, runny nose, dreadful cough, weird dreams and sleepless nights. Initial consultation was with the male nurse who did medical history, blood pressure, meds list and temperature as well as the warning of the doctor's fee. I think that's when my blood pressure became elevated. Then we waited some more before finally seeing the Portuguese doctor in between emergencies (e.g. teenage girl knocked unconscious on the wave rider). He gave me some pain relievers and antibiotics. Tom is relieved that some of the doctor's cost will be offset by the savings on alcohol!! By the time we finished there it was lunchtime so we went straight up to the dining room, where, to my delight, they were serving lobster! I had 2!!!!!! (They were very small). We spent the afternoon in our cabin (or on the balcony) watching all the islands and craft as we motored up a particularly crowded route past Singapore. Airforce fighter jets flew overhead, navy boats came and went (including an Australian one), and many many freighters. The depth of the water under us has been interesting. For most of our journey we've been in an average of 40-50 feet, really shallow. If we sank upright we'd still be peeking out of the water, I'm sure. When we were in the water between Indonesia and Australia we crossed a trench that had over 3 1/2 kilometres below us! Dinner was interesting - Cream of Roasted Garlic Soup, Chicken Masala and Tiramisu.

Shannon Not good to hear you're unwell, mum. Hope the expensive antibiotics kick in. Enjoy lots of lobster to make up for it
Sophie That's dreadful to hear about the sinus infection! It's a good thing you're not sailing back into Sydney because the quarantine station is full of ghosts!
