Colleen & Tom's Explorations
Alas! 'Twas raining when we awoke - that meant our planned breakfast has to be postponed :( Part of our package includes a breakfast delivered by canoe (which they pronounce as canoe-ee???). But that's okay! We went to the buffet breakfast and the chef on duty made some awesome omelettes to go with our sausages followed by fresh fruit! Tom was happy to forget about the canoe breakfast, but the concierge was concerned that we should not miss out, so we'll see how we go for Friday - they already have one booked for tomorrow, and they only do one each day. By the time we finished breakfast the rain had stopped so we went exploring more of the resort. We found the beach front and garden bungalows which are really lovely, well-placed and reasonably priced. All along the beach front they have nets for volleyball, equipment for water activities and showers for rinsing off. We also found the restaurant that caters for more gourmet tastes. We are able to use this restaurant too if we wish, for a small surcharge, but we are not that worried. Our buffet meals are quite sufficient, and we can also avail ourselves of the a la carte menu in the main restaurant if we wish. Our package deal is really good - it was inclusive of breakfast and dinner, as well as our canoe breakfast, the island tour, flights, all transfers and the two nights on Papeete (one at each end of the Moorea sojourn, to fit in with the flights). Its interesting to watch the rhythm of daily life on the resort. Checkout is at 12, and check-in is 2pm, but every day the new guests start arriving at about 9am. The housemaids madly refresh the rooms for the continuing guests and clean the empty rooms as soon as possible, traveling between bungalows on their electric carts. The departing guests always walk slowly and sombrely, as if resuming the weight of their worldly troubles as they depart. Today we were able to feed the fish from our deck. Last night I smuggled a couple of rolls from our basket at dinner (it seems many people do) - we had stripy fish, those long skinny pale blue fish, the small royal blue fish, the fish with yellow fins, the fish with black and red saddles, the pretty fish with a mauve snout and a couple of huge fish, as well as ordinary nondescript ones. It was fun. No wonder there are always people snorkelling in the lagoon (with the resort equipment). Dinner tonight was an Asian theme - with decorations - and Japanese food as well as the usual Asian fare. All very tasty.
