Colleen & Tom's Explorations
Today was a day of total rest and relaxation! The most stressful thing? Not knowing when that lovely Polynesian lady would come to make our bed and give us fresh towels! Oh, and begging her to leave the quilt off the bed! We have been sleeping under the sheet with aircon! After a luxurious sleep-in we wandered over to the brekky buffet for a leisurely breakfast - the fresh pineapple and papaya are delicious - after which I retired to the reception area to use the wifi, which was miraculously working, and Tom collected some beach towels for us. When I returned to the bungalow we went for our first dip in the water, at the bottom of the steps off our deck. The water is crystal clear and soooo warm. There's none of that sharp intake of breath when you first get in. They have grown coral in our little lagoon, to help conserve it, and that attracts the pretty fish that abound. As you can see from today's photo collection, we did a lot of fish watching! They are all shapes, sizes and colours. Having the steps off the deck is so handy - you can stay in your swimmers (the cane furniture seems waterproof - over at the bar the other day they brought in the cushions but left the chairs out in the rain) and just go in for a dip whenever it takes your fancy - just like having a pool at home I guess. We also have a shower over the steps to rinse off, which is excellent. This afternoon we saw a bride and groom on the beach having their photos taken. Dinner this evening was delicious. We got our half price cocktails beforehand (I had the cocktail du jour with Kahlua and baileys in it with guava cream and something else - yum). I love the French cuisine. There are a lot of French people here (and Aussies - another Melbourne family have the bungalow next to ours, and Americans of course). I love getting to use my non-existent French! I must be getting better at it, because once, just once, someone continued on in French. Usually they switch to English as soon as you've massacred their language. Then to reception to use the wifi again - it's becoming a routine. But it was really really slow. So back to our bungalow to watch the lights over the water. There are three hotels on this island with overwater bungalows: this one, the Hilton and the intercontinental. The other two do not look out to anything but open sea, they are on the north of the island. We are on the east coast and get to see Tahiti, and it's lights at night. Very pretty.
