After suffering thee massive hangover, next morning the day begun with shopping at the Marina supermarket. The little elitist in me found it only appropriate to balance the rough camping by buying a bottle of pink champagne. How random to buy pink champagne in one of the poorest countries in the world. Also shopped a last minute sun mask to decorate a wall yet unknown. Returning to Ghana was relatively smooth but at the same time we all knew it was a step closer to the end of our trip.
Bushcamped in northern Ghana and spent the next day on the crummy road leading to Mole national park. Made new acquintances of tse tse flies (!). Mole national park itself is quite modest compared to eastern or southern africa but the presence of warthogs and baboons certainly entertained us. Did see an elephant at very last minute though. The highlights of Mole were definately the sizable pool at the hotel and a fun football game with local kids and teens. Shameful enough we lost in penalty shots but did win the first half.
Another crazy driving day followed our two nights in Mole and made pit stop in Kumasi (Dragoman please find another place to stay in Kumasi for the future groups, Presbyterian guest house is a dump and both times our booked rooms were not there when we arrived).
Another driving day with lunch and a canopy walk in Kakum national park, cool sights! Reached Brenu Beach where we spent the three nights to follow. By the time Madge was parked, a wild herd of tired travelers made a run to the beach, an endless stretch of white sand and palm trees. Next morning helped out at a local school by painting one of the classrooms and entertained the curious kids just by being there. The cutest little things in the world!
The last days at the beach went by chilling in the hammock, playing fooball on the beach and eating huge portions of lobster for lunch (5e !!). Life just doesn't get much better than that. Shame enough all good things come to an end and trip ended much too soon. Have lot of exeriences in my backpack now which haven't ever even dreamed of before. The biggest thank's to Paul and Michael for being the best tour leaders we could ask for, can't thank you enough! All the best for your further trips.
Will save the wildest details until I'm home, photos will be up soon as long as I reach SA. For those interested, this trip was a trip run by Dragoman overland called Best of Ghana and Mali. I highly recommend to take this trip, it's fascinating and the roads are less travelled than other parts of Africa. Sometimes would go for days without seeing other whities. Would recommend being prepared for occasionally rough conditions and a good stock of sun screen, DEET and patience. An average adaptable traveller will definately enjoy this trip, the areas we visited are rather difficult or impossible to access with public transport so a well-equipped overlanding vehicle with an experienced crew will help get more out of the region.
