Last day in Botswana was spent in the Kalahari surroundings and Ghanzi, decided to upgrade for a hut since it seemed like it might rain. Learned a few interesting facts about the bushmen. The next day dawned with a long drive to Windhoek, was rather pleasant to be back in the Cardboard Box and be able to stock up on necessities without any major hassle. Also paid a visit to our old frined Luigi & the Fish. What a lovely restaurant, this time oysters in stock ;) oink..
The short visit to Windhoek was followed by two days in Etosha. Quite a nice national park, didn't see insanely much but enjoyed escaping the heat in a lovely pool and having sundowners by the waterhole, watching game come to drink. Also an occasional rhino. Not much to say about Etosha really, never been big on game drives and was not the first national park in Africa for me. Hghlight was probably a litter of about seven-month-old lioncubs hiding in the bush, waiting for mom.
The next morning we headed towards Spitzkoppe and our last bushcamp. Very dramatic scenery and a short late afternoon stroll to the bushman paintings nearby, followed by sundowners watching the sun sink behind the mountain next to th Spitzkoppe itself. Another hot day gone by and another surprise rain that forced us to get up and put the flysheet on in the middle of the night.
Much waited dawn began with packing the truck ready once again and drove to Swakopmund via the Cape Cross seal colony. The stink is undescribable. Tens of thousands of cape fur seals in their breeding colony. Despite the grunting, found the clumsy lumps rather adorable. Arriving in Swakopmund was just as good as arriving in Windhoek. And came across a friend we met along the way, he took us to the most brilliant restaurant known as Kucki's and the pigs went all out again. Seafood platter of Calamari, mussels, prawns, crayfish, oysters, shark, swordfish, kingklip and two other types of fish.. Had a few drinks more than should've that evening but didn't go to bed very late.
The morning we had booked a sandboarding lesson. Nothing better than climbing dunes of loose sand in the heat when you're already dehydrated. Was fun though, despite the bruises from a few times of falling on my behind. Another brilliant day followed by a fun evening, having a few drinks at the township in one of the bars. Tough life for a lion..
