The day we started the tour we drove a short distance next to Chobe natianol park in Botswana. Had to take a ferry to cross the river between borders and happened to get on the same ferry with Drago-Claudia. It was baking hot under the sun to wait until we could fit into the ferry and in the meantime all kinds of souvenirs were brought on dislay for our bunch of tourists. Ended up swapping my sunhat for a necklace and my friend actually swapped the socks that she was still wearing for another necklace. Once we got to our campsite there was not much to do after setting the tents up, decided to pass on the game drive and cruise the next day so ended u spending the day by the pool, drinking Savannas. Our second evening was highlighted with a braai.
The next day we continued on towards Maun to camp there before heading to the Okavango delta. We sent most of the hot day in the truck and getting to Maun was achievement enoufh for one day. Saw some elephants alon the way and actually hardly any traffic anywhere.
The next morning we started early to get to the Mokoro station in time to avoid the mid-day heat. Had a lot of questions in mind at that point. We were going to be on the Mokoro for two hours to reach our buch camp and naturally it was the first time on the delta. Saw some waterlilies and a white frog along the way, but luckily not a trace of hippos or crocodiles. Enjoyed a swim after lunch in the cooling water, little fish came to check us out while we were invading its home. An evening game walk also taught us about the flora and fauna of the area and we got to admire a beautiful sunset before heading back to our camp. All in all a brilliant day.
Unfortunately the night didn't go as well, thanks to the rainy season we got to experience a real African thunderstorm. Spent two hours of the night holding the tent walls against the wind only to wake up to a soggy morning and drizzle. We skipped the morning game walk due to the rain and packed our things and made our way back through the narrow channels to reaturn to Maun. Luckily half way of the Mokoro ride it stopped raining. Reaching Maun after an eventful night felt like coming home after a long time away. Afternoon free for a lazy day and tomorrow a long drive to Ghanzi. Let's hope for cool weather tomorrow.
