Today we are in Naples and went for a boat cruise along the Amalfi Coast which was gorgeous. Beautiful villages line the coast and hillsides. We went to the town of Amalfi where we had some time to shop and enjoy the atmosphere of this Italian town. This area is known for their ceramic tiles and artwork. The churches have tile domes and are very beautiful. Lemon trees line the hillsides so the shops were filled with many ceramic dishes and everything you could think of related to lemons.
We had another great Italian lunch with strolling, singing guitar players.
This afternoon we went to see Pompeii. Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD and covered this city of 20,000 people which was founded in 600 BC. It was extremely interesting to see what has been found including plaster casts of people who lost their lives in this volcanic eruption.
The weather has been absolutely gorgeous with temps in the low 80's. We are enjoying the cruise and find it a very relaxing way to see this beautiful country of Italy. We are at sea tomorrow arriving in Santorini, Greece on the 8th.
