Albufeira 3rd October
We thought we would come and have a look at Albufeira (W wants a washing machine so can leave clean things on board) and also to look at possibility of leaving the boat here for the winter. It's a government funded one and the prices are an awful lot cheaper than than the likes of Lagos and Portimao, but the facilities are comparable as it is brand new.
A mega tourist place. The "marina village" is all candyfloss pastel coloured apartments overlooking the marina, set away from the old town. The town itself is perched on the hill above the beach and must have once been a charming village. Now it is all big breakfasts, chips with everything, Irish pubs, tacky souvenirs and not much in the way of shops or facilities for the self-sufficient boater. They do have an elevator going down the cliff to the beach though!
We were tempted by the marina as an option, but want to still check out Olhao as well.
