We have finally set off, and about time! We left Dartmouth in sunshine on Sunday14th June and sailed to Cawsand Bay, just off Plymouth Sound. An uneventful little journey with the exception of a Coastguard announcement of a hazard to Shipping and small craft (ie ours) somewhere off Bolt Tail near Hope Cove. A dead cow was floating about - a bit unusual! - it would have been a shame to hit it!Most likely fell off the cliff in a bit of fog. We were passing that way, so kept looking and looking - unfortunately we didn't find it. A BBQ on the boat at anchor that evening then a further push on Monday to Falmouth. We got moved by the harbourmaster as a large tanker needed to be nudged out by tugs. So re-anchored late and prepared for a longer haul next day.

Set off at 5am Tuesday for the haul across the channel. Beautiful sunny day, wind direction ok but too light, so very very slow, finally reaching L'Aberwrac'h (c. 100nm) on the Brittany coast at 11 pm-ish .In the dark. Through the rocks. Not as much huge shipping as sometimes, they all seemed to be lined up empty at anchor outside Falmouth - signs of the times? Credit crunch and all that?

Great to be here - French food, sunshine. So spending Wednesday here, met other interesting travellers, will be heading down the Chenal du Four past Ushant to Camaret or Morgat tomorrow. Famous cliffs, caves and fantastic scenery you can get up close to.

Camaret. One of my favourite arrivals. Coming down the Chenal du Four in blazing sunshine to see the rocks and cliffs of the Pointe du Toulinguet and the Tas de Pois (pod of peas) is stunning and marks the start of the real holiday feeling. Got in about 8pm, will have a quick explore tomorrow.
