Well after 13 and a half hours of flying we arrived in Dubai at about 7pm. We had a 13 hour layover so we decided to make the most of it and head into the city. Nancy and I had booked 9 pm tickets to go to the Burj Khalifa, which is currently the tallest building in the world. We were a little late to our reservation due to the large walk leading to the Dubai Mall and then the walk through the mall! Odd fact one of the entrances for the Burj Khalifa is from an elevator inside Kinokuniya. Since the "At The Top" tour was not sold out they were willing to work with us. We started at level 148 and the view was breathtaking. Now 9 pm in Dubai is night but the city was alive with lights as far as the eye could see. Nancy and I did end up getting the professional photo that they offer but the exchange rate was on our side so no regrets. We went through several souvenir shops and tried to remember that this was not our main trip and that we couldn't fill up our suitcases. After our trip to the top of the world we headed out to the mall and saw part of the aquarium and grabbed a quick bite before closing at midnight. Since the Metro tram was closed that we took into the mall was closed for the night we settled on a taxi to get us back to the airport. The taxi pick up location is quite the production at the Dubai Mall and they would load 20-40 cabs at a time through a series of whistle blows and crowd control, it was very impressive. So back to the airport we went. When we were headed out of the airport we had heard a rumor that there were hotels in each concourse and decided it might be worth the money to have a nap and a shower and so our search began. We learned that a night at the hotel was $256.00 USD for two people which seemed a bit much. Instead we discovered the Snoozecubes which were $28.00 USD for two people per hour. The Snoozecubes were basically a bed and a ac unit but that was enough for us. $112.00 USD later and Nancy and I received enough sleep to not feel jet lagged for our next flight. Dubai was a lot of fun but Egypt here we come.
