Today was the start of my 2 days and 1 night trek. We started the journey by picking up everyone from their hostels in a truck (about 9 people crammed together!). We stopped on the way to the jungle to stock up on water, mosquito repellent etc. As the guides were driving off after the stop we had to knock on the window to tell them we were still missing 3 people! The start didnt fill us with a lot of confidence. About half an hour later, the driver slammed his breaks and we nearly fell out of the truck. I was starting to think these tour operators were cowboys!
After about an hour and half we were at the jungle. OMG the hills and mountains were so steep and we walked 2 and half hours solid through the jungle. When we had a rest, our tour guides started to roll up and smoke opium!! After a lot of walking we got to on of the village tribes and eat in their huts. Again our guides and the villagers were smoking opium (I think the jungle is the only safe place to smoke it!!)
Then after lunch and talking with the villagers we walked through more jungle, it really was beautiful and so far away from everything. We finally got to out destination which was the long neck village (google it to get story behind them!). There were about 15 of us staying in these 2 bamboo huts. That night we eat, there was a BBQ and then we all sat by the fire and talked and the local villagers sang. Then some irish lads who had sooooo much to drink took over the stage and sang oasis tunes and just had fun! It was a good night, very tiring but also rewarding. Tomorrow was even better!
