I went by bus from Adelaide to Coober Pedy via the groovy grape boomerang tour. Our driver reminded me of Steve Irwin- was a true ozzy!. It's a really interesting town, I heard the stories about the people who made millions mining Opal there and apparently up to 80% of it may still be hidden somewhere! People in the town live underground (can get hot above ground up to 50 degrees in summer) where the temperature is a lot cooler a consistent 23 degrees through summer and winter! No heating or air conditioning required! I sleept underground and got a great sleep, someone could have been having a party next door and I wouldn't have noticed as the walls are sound proof! I also saw the set of where the film Pitch Black was filmed. Parts of Mad Max was also filmed in the area. Its an interesting down and the people are friendly but I couldn't live in the middle of no-where like that! The next day the bus took us to Alice Springs. I left the next day for a 2 day and 3 night Rock tour which included the Kings Canyon, Uluru etc. Had a fantastic time. Slept under the stars in a swag and was traveling with a good bunch of people and we played loads of games around the fire at night. One of which I won- didnt realise how flexible I am!! Sunset/sunrise at Uluru was spectacular. Did a lot of walks and right now my legs are aching!
I've certainly discovered how big Australia is! Travelled 1620 kilometres to get to Alice and then over 1200 kilometres around Uluru! Another observation i would make is that Australians are more relaxed.I like the fact that they call it how it is and cut out the bulls***! Although some of the stuff would be considered politically incorrect in Europe! I love the phrases people use out here like "Alirighty" "No worries" "No Drama". I think people in Europe stress a lot easier!
I am now in Sydney. I flew with Qantas from Alice Springs - as the flight was landing into Sydney I got a real sense of how beautiful Sydney is. Its a fantasic place and I have taken an instant liking to it. I will spend atleast the next week here!
