Richard & Michelle Hamilton's Travels
We arrived early into Milan at 6.30am. After sorting out our luggage we boarded a bus into Milan where we left the luggage at the central railway station. Coming into Milan was very depressing from my perspective. It lacked character and is poorly maintained or developed. The trams run along tracks that are overgrown with weeds and grass. The graffiti artists have left their mark everywhere. It gave the place a very run-down and unsafe feel to it. This improved though as we walk into town and explored some of the older areas with the upmarket shops. The central Duomo Cathedral was the highlight of this day, although we saved exploring the inside until we return at the end of the month. Now on the train to Ancona to catch the ferry to Split. Sitting looking out the train and reflecting on my first impressions of Milan, and I'm really disappointed so far, and wouldn't want to spend any more time than I had to here. Let's hope this changes when we return. The first leg on the train was fast and very comfortable as we almost had the business class coach to ourselves. We are very tired, and doing well not to explode with each other over small matters. We have done our usual touring 'thing' of walking for miles. How many we don't know, as the Fitbit was not attached whilst travelling; but our bodies are telling us about it! Let's hope the ferry has comfortable beds, because we are going to sleep well tonight! Oh one more thing...the food experience has begun. It started with breakfast of a cream custard filled pastry.
