Just-Imagine!
Saturday 17th Jan - Arrived home safely, no surprise that we noticed the heat when we arrived in Perth. Great to see family again.
Thinking about our holiday highlights and without a doubt Disneyland would be have to be a standout for all of us, so many adventures that none of us have experienced before, to see Micky in real life, and the castle show was the most amazing light show I had ever seen, and Liam saying it was awesome.
Liam's favorite memories of the trip are many, which is good. He enjoyed the Eiffel tower climb in Paris, the next best thing was ice skating which he had multiple chances to get some practice, and he was really good. But his biggest highlight was going up to the snow fields and being able to experience the speed of sledding. He also had fun feeding the squirrels in Torino. Where ever he went he always had a lot of fun climbing up and down hundreds of steps. When we arrived at a new hotel room he was a little manic discovering how everything worked. However his favorite saying was "this is taking a million years" when we were walking for too long, especially when he was dragging a case behind him, but I must say he did extremely well getting his case in and out of trains and lifts. His biggest question was he couldn't understand why all the statues in Italy never had any clothes on.
Rob's most favorite highlight of the whole holiday was seeing the Pope. He never ever imagined seeing the Pope in real life. He also commented that he enjoyed spinning on the bulls balls in Milan! I'm sure there were many more....his Italian speaking was really good and certainly helped many times during our travels.
For me...well I'm not sure where to start. I think my favorite city is still Rome and I would like to spend more time there in the near future. Paris - I don't want to judge it too early and would like to visit in another season, but I don't get what all the fuss is about? I really was glad to be able to see Agrigento, seeing something so ancient is hard to imagine, and Alberobello with those little trulli house. One sees these places on TV or in books thinking you would never see them in real life - but I did. It was great to be able to spend time with relatives and share Christmas with them. The place I didn't gel to much was Milan, although the Cathedral was amazing, I don't have a yearning to go back. I did really enjoy our time in Munich and I'm glad we spent six days there, it has inspired me to see more of Germany next time. However no other country will replace Italy second to home.
Some of the frustrations of the holiday were the vagueness of some direction from Italian's, they are so layed back, which is what the appeal of Italy is I guess. Meals out with Liam were a bit of a hassle because he eats very little, he mostly lived on the bread that came as a side dish! Oh and MacDonalds of cause. It wasn't too bad dragging cases on and off trains, it was nice staying in hotels and not having to tidy up, and the breakfasts were great. A little hassle not being able to wash clothes easily.
We will probably never have the chance to experience another amazing holiday like this, as the next overseas one Liam will not be so little, many places children's entry was free. I have to admit it was nice having a base to go back too like the holiday in 2011.
So here's to the next trip, ending with some of our favorite photos.
