Sunday 30.9.18 - We are flying to a town called Salta today which is situated in the Lerma Valley, and the Province of Salta (north West province of Argentina) at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. This is the southern-most region of what was the Inca Empire, belonging to the Collasuyu province, one of the four areas of the empire until the Spanish conquest.
A straight forward pickup at the airport and transfer to the hotel, which is a bit basic, and wifi only works in the foyer ☹. After book in we headed out down town for some lunch. The Spanish style is very evident with many buildings, very grand, but old, every thing looks half finished. Couldn't look in the Cathedral as mass was in process. We enjoyed lunch in a nice old café, then headed back for a siesta. After a rest we headed to the cable car ride which takes you up to San Bernardo Hill that allows you to lookout over the town, and see the Andes mountains that surround. Making our way back down in the cable car we stumbled upon a lake with many markets and food stalls, with people paddling boats on the lake. We decided to have some street food for tea, so a bottle of drink, a pizza the size of a side plate, the biggest kebab I've seen with chips, and finished off with a cup of strawberries and cream each, dinner cost us a whopping $7.00 between us. It was a nice evening sitting on the lake side with live band music and all the activity, we were thinking its probably a regular Sunday night event. Up early for a tour tomorrow to Humahuaca ( sounds like Morewaka).
