First day on our overland trip….had an early start as had to meet the rest of the group by 7am to load our luggage onto the TRUCK….SHASHE!!! When we reached there, we were shocked as to how little we had packed compared to the others. After loading the truck, we headed off to the famous townships of cape town to learn more history and the differences between races just a few years ago.District 6 is one of the townships we visited….seemed like an upgraded version of the slums in Kenya.Had concrete walls with electricity and clean water supply. We visited a Shabeen, a local illegal joint where we tried some Ndogo which is a locally brewed alcohol which tasted of yeast and we all had to drink from a huge bucket without straws (it was cheap…only 20 rand for the bucket).
We had lunch at a local joint like gatundus but larger. We ate some ugali like thing called Paap while the rest had nyama choma. We rejoined Shashe and started our journey heading north of Cape Town to a vineyard where we camped for the night and had another wine tasting session which was very informative and enjoyable!
