Hey all!! Hope you are all well!
What an awesome trip to the Delta!! I'm a bit short on time and its very expensive in Zambia so gonna do a quick one!
We were 2 nights on the delta and it was amazing - we had these dug out tree canoes called Makoros that were moved by polers - they took us to the island and around during the 3 days - it was so peacfully moving through the reeds and wter lillys everywhere. We went on a few game walks and saw so many things! Giraffes, Wildebeast, Zebra, Warthog, elephants, and Hippo!!! On a sunset river cruise a hippo came for us and we had to back off and scare it away!! I got eaten alive by the mozzies but won a bottle of wine for the most bites - even I'm not sure if it was worth it!! We also went for a swim in the beautiful clear waters in the delta! It was noce to come back to civilization and have a shower and a real toilet again though! We were all disgusting!!
On Wednesday we had a driving day but the scenery was amazing and we saw loads of elephants by the side of the road! One bull started coming towards us with his ears flapping so we drove off fairly quickly then a bit further down the road we saw a loads of females with babies!! One was really small - I got some awesome pictures but can't uploads yet so you'll have to wait! We were just about to leave when the police stopped us and wanted to fine us 150,000 pula which is about 15, 000 GBP!! They said they'd impound the truck if we didn't pay but Mia, our guide won't give into bribs and eventually we were let off but had to drive quickly and not stop again! We got to the campsite for lunch then in the afternoon went on a sunset hippo cruise - it was soooooo good!! We saw loads of hippos and babies! Crocodiles, Kudu, Water buffallo and an elephant playing in the water! It was so incredible!
Today we crossed the boarder into Zambia and did it in record time- it can take between 2hrs & 2 days!! We did it in 1hour!! Again Mia got us to the front of a long line of lorrys and only 2 can get on at a time! Very primitive and not very safe! Upon unpacking our tent here we discovered we'd brought a toad from Botswana to Zambia with us - hope he does ok!! We're here for a few days - going to Victoria Falls tomorrow but otherwise washing and searching for a proper computer shop! Its very humid here and the hair is beginning to rebel!! :( Still loving every minute though - we loose 9 people off our group tomorrow and get 6 new ones - tempers are getting a little frayed in places so hopefully a chancge will be as good as a rest! We should get new tents as well as we are putting 2 tarps over ours every night but its not very nice! If we don't I might have to kick some GAP ADVENTURES ass!!
Turned out that wasn't so short after all!! Much love to you all - stay safe! x x x
