Hi All!
Just got back from the North Coast this morning from a place called Nungwi. It was bloody beautiful!!
ON our way up we stopped at a Spice farm and were walked around the farm being shown lots of different things and learnt about how the grew and were harvested. I ate part of a Nutmeg and was then told 4 grammes would make me unconcious!! Luckily only my mouth went numb! They were encouraging us to eat everything but I wasn't so sure after that! We then sat down and were fed all the diffent things we'd seen growing - most were very tasty but I can definalty live without custard apple and jackfruit in my life! They were slimey smelt bad and had the worst texture ever! A man then climbed a coconut tree - he sang as he climbed and at the top busted a few moves, which quite frankley was just showing off!! We drank the milk and ate the coconut then headed to the shop. I brought a couple of things to make me smell better than I do now!
Got to our restort just before lunch and it was gorgeous. White sands, flowers everywhere and clear blue sea that was too warm! Lovely! We went for a wonder then got ready for a wedding! A couple on our trip decided to get a blessing while we were in Zanzibar and it was so amazing! I was a witness and got a bit emotional but it was so perfect and they both looked so happy. They got married as the tide lapped around their ankles and we found a guy with a guitar to play for us. The staff decorated the bar with flowers and palm leaves. It couldn't have been better.
Next day spent the morning relaxing in the sun then hid in the shade for the afternoon,. In the evening some of us took a walk through the fishing village along the coast to a turtle sanctuary and feed the sea turtles. We also held the babies - they were so amazing.
We came back to Stone town this morning and wondered around the shops then 5 of us went over to prison island which was origanally intended to be used as a prison but before they could they had a yellow fever epidemic and used it for a quarentine centre - it would have made a lovely prison - a secluded island with beautiful seas and white sands - they built it to look like a resort! It now is home to some giant tortoises!!!!! I was soooooooooo happy!! We petted them and feed them! I gave a neck massage to an 125 yr old and it fell asleep - I was in my element! Appanrently I'm not aloud to smuggle one home! We did a bit of snorkling before heading back but didn't stay in long coz of the jelly fish!
We loose another memeber today but gain 5 before heading off early tomorrow back to Tanzania for the last week of this trip.
