Leaving Chiang Mai we headed towards the most beautifully bizarre temples we had ever seen (the stray secret stop off). Wat Rong Khun 'The White Temple' in Chiang Rai by artist Ajarn Chalermchai Kositpipat. A pure white temple built with the same ideals of traditional temples but with a modern twist. The Matrix, Predator, Spiderman, the burning twin towers, George Bush and Osama Bin Laden were some of the images depicted inside the temple. It had to be seen to be believed as our pictures do not do it any justice. Plus they had amazing toilets, the best so far on our adventure. We continued on the bus to Chiang Khong our stop for the night and a handy five minute walk from the Thai-Laos border. Owed by 'Charlie' the waffle man, we thought we'd stretch our legs and take in some Thai fresh air on Charlie's bicycles. After 5 minutes we retired (the hills beat us) but we gave the locals a laugh. The night was filled with blunt dart games, monopoly, and Grahame getting bitten by a GIANT gecko after he chased us around the living room making us scream like the girls we are. Finally, we fell asleep to a chorus of grasshoppers, gecko's and other creatures of the night (a wee bit different for us city girls).
