We booked to go on a day trip to see some caves and a waterfall so were very exciting. The only down side to these day trips is that you have to get up early as it takes so long to travel anywhere. Day 2 of the slowboat cruise, this time I wasn't as excited as it would be the same as the day before. We boarded the boat 8am, ready to set off at 8:30. Only we were on Laos time now so set off at 9:00am. No one had told us/ didn't know how to tell us how long the journey would be so we were just guessing amongst ourselves. Our day started at 7:30am after a not so comfy nights sleep. The room didn't have air con, just a noisy fan and the mattress was so thin I could feel the springs in my back. After breakfast of an omelette sandwich(?) and a cup of tea we headed to the Thai/Laos border. Talking of tea, I have only had one decent cup in 2 weeks! Our last day in Thailand (for now) was spent travelling North to the border with Laos. The journey was 6 hours altogether which went pretty quickly, thank God although not surprising as the driver absolutely tanked it. We stopped for lunch in Chiang Rai, which we were going to originally visit for a couple of days but an hour was enough. It seemed like just the one street. Our last day in Chiang Mai today. We've really enjoyed this city. So chilled and calm but with plenty going on. We started the day by going to Doi Suthep, a village on a nearby hill with a temple at the top. The views were spectacular! You could see the whole of Chiang Mai. As for the temple, it was a climb up 300 steps which was great exercise to help burn off our McDonalds and pizza from the day before. The temples are beginning to look very samey though which...
