I made the executive decision that we should avoid all the hassle of staying in Haad Rin, where the full moon party takes place so instead we are staying in the North West of the island at Chao Phao beach. There is a great beach with several bungalow/guest house jobbies, although the resort itself is rather quiet. Attention is centred around one particualar place that shows movies all day - Nay you would love it!
Sam and I arrived at Thong Sala ferry port tired and hungover as usual. Fortunately I had been organised and got a free pick up from our hosts for the next few days. The woman that runs it "Pan" is the fattest thai bird I have seen. Yet she still insists on wearing tight jeans, the result of which is a heinous error!
Our bugnalow is basic but clean and its prime location on the beach front coupled with a hammock makes it very likeable indeed! Ralph and Al joined us the next day after they had completed their Advanced divers course.
Sunday 5th Nov marked the auspicious occasion of Full Moon - hopefully the pictures convey just how fun it was! Although there were a few too many 'Brits on holiday' type hooligans for my liking. It seriosuly annoys me how these people give the rest of us such a bad press! There were buckets galore, a lot of luminous body paint/jewellery and music for all tastes. On the plus side we managed to miraculously meet up with some friends from Koh Tao - amazing considering there are an estimated 8,000 people at the party!
Suffice to say we all ended up losing each other one way or another and I struck up conversation with a particularly affable German who I insisted talk only in his mother tongue so I could spruce up my language skills! Think the poor boy was terrified of me barking at him auf deutsch! The morning came all to quickly and the crowd seem to disappear so after eventually finding Sam and Ralph (al had conveniently already left without telling us!) we found a mini bus and finally hit the sack around 9am. Spent most of the next day in bed recovering - all the s*** they put in those buckets does make you feel rather queasy. Thai red bull leaves a disgusting taste in your mouth as a lovely reminder of the fact that you drank way too much crap the night before! Tuesday was our last day in Pha Ngan. On balance I think we had more fun in Koh Tao as there were a bigger group of people to go out with, although Pha Ngan is such a relaxed haven (FMP aside).
Next stop is off to Koh Phi Phi on the West Coast - getting the overnight boat so god help us!
