Jaipur
On the back of another overnight train journey, we arrived in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, at the unearthly hour of 5am. After finding our accommodation, we dived into bed for a couple of hours kip before meeting up with one of Sam's buddies from law school - Harpreet. The next few days were quite a treat for us since her family own a couple of restaurants in the city. We decided to relax on day 1 and enjoy a 'pool day' in one of the nicer hotels, a great opportunity to work on our tans. Haps tailored an itinerary for us which was rather nice as we seem to spend so much time planning what to do next! We enjoyed an absolute feast for dinner at the same hotel and Haps generously wouldn't let us pay for a thing.
The next day we got stuck into some more sightseeing, going round the City Palace and then onto the fort. In contrast to Jodhpur's blue'ness, Jaipur is known as the Pink City since good old Prince Albert so named it during the age of Imperial Britain.
Day 3 was reserved for every girl's favourite hobby - shopping. Managed to pick up some bargains before a trip to the Rang Mahal, a v v swanky hotel to enjoy an early morning martini. This place will definitely feature in my shortlist as a honey moon stop off point! It used to be the Maharajah's palace and palatial it certainly is, affording spectacular views of the fort and a world away from the dirt and grime of a typical Indian street!
