Boxing day was spent relaxingat the caravan park and eating all the food we had in the fridge before we left on Sunday. It felt strange to be 'back on the road' we had got used to the luxury of a warm shower and a kitchen. On Monday we took a ferry over to Rottnest Island. So called because a Dutch explorer mistook the islands Quokkas for large rats. A Quokka is a marsupial and there are approximatley 10,000 on the island. They are nocturnal creatures but we did manage to spot a few. They look a bit strange, like a large rat with a kangaroo tail and they eat leaves and foliage. We took a bus tour of the island, which was very informative and took us all the way around. We arrived in Fremantle in the morning and spent the day getting our bearings and organising the week ahead. On Saturday we got very confused with the public transport, but eventually managed to get to Perth. Our first stop was the information centre, where we were taken on an orientation walk by a very friendly volunteer. We spent the first day sorting out where we are going to spend Christmas. We decided on Freemantle and booked a week at a caravan park. The next two days we looked around the town, climbed the lookout points and went to a Taffy shop and bought a selection of their chocolate and sweets. We spent the next few days in Mandurah and Rockingham, passing the time before Christmas. They are both nice towns with lovely beaches but not a lot to entertain us. We got a litt...
