After a huge amount of driving we finally arrived in Broome. It was not quite what we had expected and the local expression 'welcome to Broome time' could not be more true. We carried on to Carnarvon where we had hoped to find work. To our surprise there was no fruit picking work and nothing in the few bars and restaurants. We stayed the night and had a good look around the town before heading on to Coral Bay and the Ningaloo reef. Coral Bay revolves around the reef and everything is geared towards snorkelling and diving. Our next stop was Kalbarri, a small seaside town off the main highway. This is a beautiful part of the coastline and we enjoyed looking around the town and strolling along the beach. We visited Rainbow Jungle a parrot sanctuary. This was really fun, especially the open area where the parrots could fly around freely. On friday we went to meet the Ellis family in Geraldton. Even though we had never met before they were very welcoming and helped us prepare for our trip up north. We bought a fan and a fridge, so we should be able to deal with the heat and humidity when we get up there. On Tuesday we went to the Nambung National Park to see the Pinnacles Desert, thousands of limestone columns. We were amazed that there were so many, they went on as far as you can see. No one really knows how they were formed. One theory is that they are the remains of an ancient forest, similar to the petrified forest in Cape Nelson.
