So I had a really early start to leave Cairns to Darwin and wasn't feeling all that sociable at six in the morning waiting for the bus. I actually felt really nervous about moving on, but as soon as I got on the coach and the rainforest was in the background and all I could see was the dry dusty land I was feeling so great about moving on. Once I got on the bus I quickly realised that for once there were very few English people on my tour. Infact it was only two of us from England. We had Irish, German, Swedish, Italian, French, Canadian, Swiss, Japanese, American and Israeli. We spent our first day visiting loads of places. First stop was Mount Surprise where we got to see a snake show. All 28 of us were looking a bit scared when the snake guy started getting out all these snakes. Although I was so scared about holding the snakes I really wanted to do it. So I opted for Clancy a black headed python. I have the photos to prove it. Our next stop was Croydon where we were staying for the night. The hotel was so funny cause it was this typical Australian place where every single local could have appeared in Crocodile Dundee. We spent our second day venturing further into the outback. So we headed down the Matilda highway and everything was starting to look more and more remote. But this is exactly what I wanted to see as I have spent so much of my time in Australia in very touristy places. We stopped at a palce called Lawn Hill National Park and got to hire canoes to head down the gorge and go for swim in some of the waterfalls. We were all a bit nervous as a few people spotted some freshwater crocs in the same part that we were swimming in. They are regarded as harmless but still I didn't really fancy being bitten by one. Our home for tonight was a place called Adels Grove, I was fortunate enough to share my shower with one of the biggest spiders I have seen in Australia so far. Luckily he wasn't a jumping spider and let me get on with my shower without attacking me!! We all had a great night sitting round a campfire under all the amazing stars. We toasted marshmallows and all had a go at playing a digereedoo. Our third day was probably the most tiring of all. We had to cover a lot of distance and only on dirt tracks. To put it in perspective the distance we travel in the four days is like travelling the UK three times. So it's a lot. The benefit on being on these type of roads is that you start to see some of the real Australia. We saw red Kangeroos and their Joey's and Wild horses everywhere. We also got to see some of the Aboriginal Villages which is something you never see in any of the East Coast and the majority of the other places I will visit. We had a few problems with the coach and we were all not particuarly liking the idea of spending the night in the middle of nowhere. Luckily we managed to reach our stop for the night, not before stopping at a place called Hell's Road house. Our night tonight was spent at Heartbreak Hotel - it got it's name for all the heartbreak it caused when it was built in this remote part of the outback. I spent the night chatting to all the other nationalities about England as everyone seems to think England is such a bad country and we are to blame for all the troubles in Australia, I managed to put up a bit of a fight and prove it's not all that bad. Our last day was again another solid day of driving but we did stop at this amazing place called the Daly Waters Pub. It's really hard to explain but the place has so much character and charm. Everyone who visits leaves something of theirs behind. So you can sign your national flag, leave a photo, people left flipflops - whatever you want. It was such a nice idea that you can leave your mark on this really old pub in the middle of outback. One of our last stops was at the Adelaide River where we had our photo taken with Charlie the water buffalo who appeared in first Crocodile Dundee film. After finally arriving in Darwin at around 8 at night we all headed out for a night out to celebrate our trip. Let's just say we all got a little more drunk than we realised and the majority of us had hangovers to match the next day... All in all this way by far the best trip I have done so far. I had a great group and everone had so much fun and we all got to see the real side of Australia.
