We were up at 6.00am this morning as we were catching a bus to Tha Ton, four hours north of Chaing Mai. From here most people catch a four hour slow boat down river to Chaing Rai, we have decided to stay one night in Tha Ton and catch the boat at 12.30pm tomorrow.

After a 20 minute walk to the bus station we bought our tickets and boarded the bus. We both managed to fall asleep for the first two hours of the journey and the next two hours passed fairly easily. The scenery was amazing as we drove up the winding roads and Rachael managed not to get travel sick, result!

We arrived in Tha Ton and wondered if we have made the wrong decision by opting to stay a night as everything seemed to be closed. After having some dinner, we wandered further into town and round a couple of guest houses within our budget. We decided on one, which Tom has declared is his favourite so far. That evening, we went to a restaurant on the river and enjoyed the peace and quiet of this small town.
