We were up at 7am this morning and after waking up the guesthouse owner to let us our (Malaysians do not do mornings) we were on our way to Singapore. The immigration building we had to leave through was the fanciest we've seen, it was like an airport with Marble floors and shiny windows. Tom filled in a questionnaire about Malaysia before we left and got a "lovely badge" for his troubles. Miss grump didn't want to fill our the questionnaire, nor did she want the badge.
When we arrived in Singapore it wasn't at all what we were expecting. We imagined it to be like KL with high rises with high-rise buildings as far as the eye could see, maybe we were just on the outskirts (although the whole island isn't that big anyway).
We walked for a while and checked into our first dormitory room of the trip. From now on our budget is going to have to go up significantly, for the whole of our trip so far we have managed to stay in inexpensive double rooms now we were in 12 bed dorm for 4x the price. That said the hostel was very new, full of Ikea furniture, AC, cooking facilities (so we could save money), WIFI, and breakfast included.
That afternoon we went to explore what we have been told is the most expensive city in the world. We were pleasantly surprised though we saved money by buying the equivalent to a London Underground "Oyster" card so we could zip around on the MRT for the four days we're here. We soon found so cheap food stalls we could afford to eat on, although we did head to Burger King for lunch.
The rest of the afternoon we got a bit of a feeling for the city, heading down town, then went back and used the good WIFI to plan our remaining destinations and flights.
