Today the plan was to visit Alcatraz and see a bit of the city and of course the Golden Gate bridge. We mad the most of our free breakfast and managed to make up some sandwiches with the bread they supplied and fill our flask with the free coffee. We headed out of "murderville" as Rach has now named our area and caught a tram to the pier where the boat to Alcatraz left from. When you first arrive on the island you watch a short film explaining all about Alcatraz, then you walk up the hill into the prison. You're given some headphones and are taken around the prison via an audio tour, which was really interesting. You learned all about the famous prisoners it held, about the failed escapes and heard real accounts from prisoners who were held there.
We got the boat back to the mainland and spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the city, which was really nice with lots beautiful big houses. We walked up a really steep street to see the famous crooked road and then took a bus over to see the Golden Gate bridge.
Tomorrow we leave the US and are heading to the snow in Canada.
