Happy Birthday Sarah!

Time to move on again, today we're flying to San Francisco. Unfortunately Tom was feeling the effects of the free drinks last night! The flight was just over an hour and we landed in San Francisco airport shortly after lunch. We'd booked a hostel in Down-town San Fran and have heard varying reports about the area. Most say it's a good location in which to see the City but a few have said it's quite rough. We found out for ourselves soon enough.

We got a train from the airport and got off about seven blocks away from the hostel, thinking it would be fine to walk the rest of the way. We formed our own opinion of the area fairly quickly. Everyone was on drugs and mostly homeless, their behaviour was very threatening, we didn't feel at all safe walking down the street with our big bags on our back and breathed a huge sigh of relief when we eventually arrived at the hostel. Inside the hostel was very nice and the girl at reception gave us a map when we checked in and put a big cross through the area we'd just walked through and told us to avoid it as it was unsafe. It would have been handy if they warned you about that before you arrived!

We headed out for some lunch and ate at a nice Thai restaurant, thankfully the area was a little nicer and we enjoyed eating Thai food again. We spent the rest of the afternoon in the the safety of the hostel.
