Today we got up ready to check out of the hostel at 10am. We had to put our luggage in storage for 3 days as we are doing the Whitsundays sailing trip today and you can only take a small rucksack onboard. We went on the internet for a bit and then went to get some snacks and alcohol for the trip. We got some lunch and then walked down to the Shute Harbour where we picked up the sailing boat from. We are on the Mandrake boat for 3 days and there are 15 of us in total with the skipper and a French lady called Veronica who does all the cooking and helps the skipper on deck. The Mandrake is a 14 metre performance ocean racing yacht. It is now transformed into a extremely comfortable charter yacht. The Mandrake has been used as an America's Cup defence training vessel. We boarded the boat at 1pm and had a safety briefing. Then we started to sail around the World Heritage Listed Whitsunday Islands. It was great relaxing in the sun and taking in the breathtaking views of the Whitsunday Islands. We had music playing on deck. We stopped sailing for a couple of hours and everyone got off and were taken in a small speed boat to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef. I am not a strong swimmer so I stayed on the boat and sunbathed on deck. When everyone had got back on the boat we saw dolphins swimming past us. Everyone was gutted that they weren't still in the water. We carried on sailing around and then stopped near Hook Island for the night. A couple more boats were around us for the night. The French lady Veronica cooked us spag bowl and garlic bread. It was yummy. Then we spent the rest of the evening drinking goon and chatting to everyone on deck getting to know each other. Then we went to bed. It was so hot below deck. Some people were sleeping outside on deck.
