Hello everyone, sorry the blogs have been a bit out of sync, didn't get much internet time after the trek, took long enough to put the photos on!
So the Jomsom trek...
Day 1: Took a bus from Pokhara up the valley to the starting point of our trek. We followed the valley up past crystal clear pools and corn fields. We stopped for lunch then tackled the 3280 stone steps (ascending 600m), we took it 500 steps at a time and were quite chuffed with ourselves when we got to the top. We then saw groups of school children of various ages going and down. We found out that the primary school as in the village at the top of the steps and the secondary school is in the village at the bottom of the steps so depending on which village they lived in they had a long walk to school! Plus we looked red, sweaty and dirty and they all still look immaculate in there crisp white shirts. That is a dedication to learning. We spent the night at the top of the steps in a lovely little lodge.
Day 2: Another day of up, but not so steep. Wondered through amazing forests, occasionaly having to stop to let the mules go past. As we climbed higher the Rhodenderons started to appear. Soon enough we were engulfed by them. Surrounded by red, pink and orange flowers, it was beautiful. After lunch we headed down the other side of the mountain. We where joined by a lovely dog who we names Roger, he stayed with us for the rest of the day and then waited outside our room that night! We both fell a little bit in love with Roger.
Day 3: So Roger stuck with us until a Kiwi lady going in the other direction gave him some food and then he followed her back up the mountain, with out so much as a wave goodbye. Fickle thing. The down was pretty intense and my knees felt it. Eventually we got down to the valley floor and enjoyed a very large lunch! In the afternoon we walked past a massive waterfall, there was a small cafe so we stopped and had a cup of tea with an incredible view. We found a guesthouse a bit further up the valley where we wiled away the evening reuniting little lost chicks with their mothers!
Day 4: We had a long morning, following the new road up the valley. We passed massive land slides and crossed ridiculously high suspension bridges until finally as we turned a corner and our first snowy capped 8000m peaks came in to view! We were pretty damn excited and the views pushed us on to our lunch spot where we ate yummy noodles and apple pie with custard. The afternoon was spent trudging along the river bed, playing 20 questions. The scenery was gradually becoming more and more dramatic. To get to our bed for the night we had to cross the icy cold river, there were a few make shift bridges but i eventually had to take off my boots and wade across. Fab day.
Day 5: Got up and walking at 6, the mountains looked incredible in the morning sun. The scenery changed, massive boulders and lot dryer, more Tibetan like. Were a bit a head of ourselves so we stopped in the town of Marpha at lunch time and spent to afternoon drinking seabuckthorn juice on the terrace of our guesthouse. We thought we deserved a rest!
Day 6,7,8: So up early and on to Jomsom! Jomsom is where we're going to fly out of in a few days but we were advised to go past Jomsom and on to the Tibetan like village of Kagbeni. We stayed here for a couple of days, Tom went on a walk from the villaged but i'd pulled a tendon in my knee so thought i'd give it a rest, so i spent the day watching the baby goats just next to our hostel. SOOOO CUTE! We walked back to Jomsom on after 2 nights in Kagbeni and flew out across the spectacular mountians the next day. We absolutely loved the trek and would recommend it to all!!!!
