Well Surfer was definetly what we were expected as there were a stupid amount of High rise building, not a good start as thats what we were trying to escape. We checked into a hostel as we so often do and thought we would head down the beach which again we were disappointed with as there was no real surf although it was very windy which meant a mini sand storm. After 5 mintes we were out of there and went for a walk. We were pretty surprised by surfers as we had no idea it was so commercial and i would compare it to Australia's Las Vegas. We didnt do any surfing there as there was no surf so we decided to wait till Byron Bay. We did have an immensely good night which was really quite random but very funny and thats all that I was really impressed with in Surfers, the nightlife. In the random night Pat ended up getting seperated from us after 5 minutes and spent most of his night in a strip club by himself! (wierd old man style haha) We had planned to take a road trip with Sam (from brisbane/21st) down to Byron Bay which was good fun, he is an excellent driver and stole (borrowed) his mums audi.
Well byron was about ten times better than surfers it was class. Had such good fun and it was good to be with sam as he was very much on form with his humor and ideas. Did a lot of beaching and body surfing the first few days and then met this 'ex pro' said he would take us surfing for a reasonable price and he turned out to be pretty good. I stood up on my second attempt and it was all good form then on with myself going a good 50 metres on a few of them and learned how to turn was very enjoyable. The nights out were pretty good as well with what seemed like all of the backpackers going to one bar called cheeky Monkeys and dancing on the tables. We had a couple of good nights there and went down the beach a couple of times when there were bonfires and people playing their guitars, was very chilled. After about 5 days we got the overnite train to Sydney which was a painful experience, got like 1 hrs sleep tops. We got to Sydney nice and early, spent a while shopping around for hostels and ended up staying in the red light district. If the placement isnt either a strip club or adult shop its a Kebab shop on our road. Pat definately feels at home haha.
