Wake up this morning at 7:30am and have a quick shower, I keep forgetting to put the toilet paper in the bin! Grab breakfast (4 slices of toast each with pineapple jam, yum!) before our Tuk Tuk arrives at 8:30. Take the Tuk Tuk for 30 mins out to the outskirts of Chiang Mai to Tiger Kingdom.
Pay 1980 baht to see 4 types of tiger. First we get to just wander around and see the tigers from outside. See 2 Siberian tigers and the. A few tiny babies, one is less than a month old.
First we get to see the biggest tigers and stroke and cuddle them! I get to cuddle 3 of them, when you stroke them you have to be really firm so not to tickle them, and you are obviously not Allowed near their faces...
Next we see the small and medium ones although one seems not very happy, so I don't stroke that one for long, it's scary! One of the others though loves his tummy being rubbed, it's like a cat/dog and rolls over to get its tummy rubbed!
Last but not least we see the smallest tigers and they are so playful. The sleeping one lets you lay on its tummy and you get its legs put over you so it's like a scarf :) best pillow ever!
We then meet two 2 month old tigers and the girl is really playful and bites Rikka's top :P the boy is just asleep despite the girl trying to get him to play with her by biting his ears. We spend about 10 mins with them, they're so cute!
As tower are leaving we see a lion having his nose tickled bY the keeper he was really excited to see :) we leave at 11am, our Tuk Tuk driver had waited for us, on the way back we fell asleep in the back of the Tuk Tuk as most of the journey was in a traffic jam. Back at the hostel we book our bus to Luang Prabang, Laos, tomorrow.
Rikka grabs a shower and we update our journals whilst waiting for our transport to our Thai cooking class! Just as we finish updating them, Da, the cooking instructor collects us with his brother and they take us to a locals market to learn about he different vegetables and fruit in Thailand, really interesting. We get to try Rai Apple (sp?) and Mangosteen (our favourite), they were both really juicy!
We then drive 20 minutes out to Da's farm where we are met by his dog, Money (sp?), who's only 7 months and very playful :) Da then explains about the different techniques of growing rice and then shows us around his allotment and the different vegetables and herbs and get to try lots of different things, some will be put in our food!
When we were at hostel earlier we had to chose what we'd want to cook so Da already knew what ingredients we'd need, I chose:
- Vegetable Thai Green Curry
- Tom Kaa Gai (vegetable in coconut milk soup)
- Pad Thai
- Mango Sticky Rice
First we get to make a curry paste, as I'd chosen to make Thai green curry I made green curry paste. Then we make the curry and place in a pot and on the table ready for later. Now it's time to make he soup which, when ready, is put in a pot in the table too.
When making the mango sticky rice we put an indigo flower in the coconut milk to turn it blue :) last I made pad thai which was quite easy do hopefully can make that once I'm home.
Once everything is ready we sit down to eat far too much food! Luckily it was just Rikka and I as it was not a pretty site! Let our food go down for a bit and then Da drives us back and gives us a little recipe book to keep :)
Get back to the hostel and just chill for a bit before heading out to post our postcards. Head down to the weekend market which is so busy and feel claustrophobic. On way back to hostel we pop into John's place again for out last drink here before we leave tomorrow. Get back to room and Rikka Skypes her family quickly while I update my journal and sort my self out for our journey to Laos tomorrow.
