"So take this wine..."
Finally, Italy! I've been hanging for this pizza, that pasta and some of that reasonable cheap wine. The hostel here is like a real family. We all eat dinner together which the owner cooks, then sit share bottles of wine and talk super loud. Pretty typical Italian I think. And that dinner is good! Pasta and the best kind, it's free! The other thing I'm loving here is some hot weather! It's so good I've missed the sun.
I arrived pretty late but the lads took me on an evening stroll to see some of the city at night. Turns out the colosseum was at the end of the street. Who knew! Following day was a day of being super tourist. We went to as many things as we could see. Trevi Fountain is really amazing and I did throw a coin in ensuring my return to Rome. Spainish steps, I climbed every one. Lucky there's free water fountains everywhere. Plaza Neuovo, Pantheon ad anything else on the map that looked like it had to be seen. But we finished the day with the Saint Peters Basilica. I don't think I need to see another church ever again. Wow! Every inch so perfectly finished, detailed and just stunning. Some pizza and gelato later and were done for the day.
We backed it up with a good nights sleep and more sight seeing the next day. Colosseum in the morning and a short guided tour of what went on and how it all came to be. Tell you what Subi could take a few notes. From there too Vatican City. The holiest of holies. The museum in the Vatican has the most intense art collection ever and it's just never ending. Worth every minute but it needs lots of them. By the end when you get to the Sistine Chapelle your all arted out. Still the Chapelle is unbelievable. There's no other way to describe it. We topped that day off with more gelato, I mean it's cheap and tasty so thats a tick in every box.
Next day was my last day in Rome and we spent it looking at the ruins and small things that had got overlooked. Every corner you turn theres another epic church or plaza or fountain. Even with all these epic ruins and building and history I still just can't get into Rome though. To me it felt like the locals are just looking at your pockets. Trying to swindle you out of some money some how. Either over charging you, lying about what to do where or just pick pocketing. Shame because otherwise I'd love it.
